For a baseball fan, there isn’t much that compares to the Spring Training scene. Arizona is home to 15 Major League teams (Arizona Diamondbacks, Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Indians, Colorado Rockies, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Angels, Los Angeles Dodgers, Milwaukee Brewers, Oakland A’s, San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants, Seattle Mariners and the Texas Rangers). Spring training allows the fans to interact with their favorite players up close and personal. Just a few miles from my office is HoHoKam Park, home of the Chicago Cubs. Every year I’ll make it to a few games and soak in the rays in the outfield lawn. This year, while I was in line waiting to buy my tickets, I was given some freebies right behind 3rd base. Great seats and for a great price…FREE! Even thought the Cubs didn’t impress any Cub fans that were there in attendance, the atmosphere was enough for me. Like every Cub fan, I’m used to watching them lose. I wasn’t expecting too much from them this year. What I enjoy most is spending time at the game with my son, teaching him the fundamentals of the game and hopefully creating some good memories that he and I will always remember.
The following images were taken during the 2011 spring training game between the Cubs and Rockies. When there isn’t much action on the field, a spring training game is alway a great time to take in the many characters you’ll see in attendance. These were taken with a Canon 7D (35-135mm lens).
